Training and Placement at Narmada College of  Management
Summer Training :

In the first year of your MBA you learn eight subjects each in two semesters. These give you a over all perspective of the management discipline, its basic structure, and core courses  give you a fundamental understanding of the subject. After you complete your first year, you are placed in an organization for eight weeks for summer training.

During this period you are given exposure to the entire organization and its various departments, the people who work in these departments and their interrelations. You work for a definite period in each department, understand its function, its day to day activities, its role in the over all organization, people who carry out the function and problems associated with them.

Apart from the over all study you are also expected to carry out a small project which is in an area of your specialization which you intend to pursue in the second year. This may relate to any function and may also include a market research project.

The purpose of this exercise is to ensure that :

  • You get an exposure to a real life situation, spend some time and study it.

  • You also find the gaps that are visible between what you studied in theory and what exists in practice.

  • You meet and interact with people who work in the organization, understand their roles and evaluate yourself with respect to your strength and weaknesses.

  • After this study you will have to submit a report which will carry details of the study made and recommendations and suggestions if any.

  • The report will have to be presented before a panel and you will have to answer questions on your study and recommendations.

  • The training carries marks equal to one subject and is included in your evaluation of academic performance

To help in this entire process, you will have a faculty member as a guide to you to help you design your study and other related areas. You will have to report/inform him about your progress every fifteen days during the duration of the training. If needed you can visit him at the Institute and get your clarifications.

Report Submission : On completion of the project, a report has to be submitted in 2 copies - one hard copy and one softcopy. The Hard Copy will be returned to the respective student on completion of Presentation and Vive Voce. The Industry copy may be additional if required by the concerned Industry.

Final Project :

In the fourth semester you will have to do a final project which is equivalent to three subjects of your academic study. It is aimed at providing the student a real life exposure in an organization in his area of specialization. In this project you need to study a specific problem area related to your field, viz. Finance, Marketing or HR.

You will have to register yourself at an organization for this. You will also be assigned a guide for this. In consultation with the guide you need to identify the project and work on it. The effort should be to add value to organization in which the project is being done.

On successful completion of the project, you will have under go a viva voce examination in which an external examiner from the university.

This project being an important element in the entire curriculum every effort should be made by you to make it a work of outstanding quality, since it is likely to affect your final placement too.

The Project Report is to be submitted as One Hard Copy ( Original Copy ) which will be returned after the Viva Voce and One soft copy ( on CD ) which will be retained with the College Library.

Final Placement :

Final Placement being an important activity of the Institute, is coordinated by faculty members, students and a full time placement officer.

The Placement team consists of 16 students, 8 from each year, two faculty members and the placement officer.

The activity begins by designing of the placement brochure. The placement brochure is an interface between the graduating students and the industry. It contains all the details about the Institute, its vision, mission, teaching methodology, core strengths, faculty profile and detailed profile of the students.

The idea is to give the accurate picture to the prospective recruiting organization about ourselves. After the design and printing of the brochure the industry contact program begins.

In the mid of October students form teams and try to cover each and every important geographical area which has potential in terms of final placements. After the distribution of the brochure we undertake a follow up exercise to generate as many enquiries as possible, to arrange for campus interviews.

The brochure also contains details of the placement  week which we plan to hold in mid January / beginning of February of every year.

During the placement week companies who wish to recruit students, visit our campus  and carry out the selection process.

Finally based on the selection process and our students performance they make placement offers with the job details.

The preparation from the students point of view should begin, ideally in the third semester in terms of improving their communication skills, presentation skills, subject knowledge and over all presentation of themselves. To groom the students with these skills, the placement Team arranges for MOCK VIVA as well .

The feedback which we have received from the prospective employers of yesteryears is that the key elements which they look in a candidate is, presentation skills, communication skills and some soft skills like Inter personal skills, positive attitude, group dynamics, creativity and the like.
